Twilight Series Audiobook Review

April 8, 2011

The books were a sensation with those who love to read. It was with great apprehension fans awaited the much-talked about movie release of the first volume in the Twilight book series by Stephenie Meyer. They wondered if, like so many others before it, the movie would fail to convey the heated passion, fear and gripping suspense of the book. The movie proved to be done exceedingly well but no movie can ever capture all the detail and character development that books do. The only way to do that and get the convenience of watching a movie is by listening to the audio book.

The choice of casting for the narration was dead on for the most part. All the books are narrated by Ilyana Kadushin. She hits the lines well and uses her voice to convey the emotion of each character. The only thing that may take you a little time getting used to is her reading as Edward. The narration in the audio books definitely captured the essence of the interaction between the main characters and was fairly seamless. There are just so many great scenes that’ll answer many unanswered questions brought up in the movies. The audio books are unabridged so you’ll get the whole thing.

Bella, Edward, Jacob and evil Victoria are all engaging and memorable characters. This is sheer delight for anyone, young and old. If you are not already familiar with the story, it is told from the perspective of Bella. You, as the reader, only know what she knows. This keeps many of the elements and characters of the books a mystery. It is throughout the story that slowly you figure and find things out with Bella.  By the end of each book you will be wanting more Cullen family back story. Bella is a realistic character that is a shy, lacking in confidence teenager. The sarcastic inner voice that narrates the story for the reader is a large strength of these books. Beautifully written, the descriptions of Forks will make you feel as though you can almost smell the damp air and hear the rain falling on the roof. The romance of Bella and Edward is compelling and touching.  There’s is an impossible love, yet they both are unwilling to give up hope.

In conclusion, it is without reservation that this series is recommended to all who like a good love story. It is a great vampire/werewolf story that has mixed in with plenty of action, adventure and suspense that will keep you thirsting for more.
